GVT is exempted against Income Tax under section 35 AC of Income Tax Act.1961. It is registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976 besides it also has exemption under section197 (1) of the Income Tax Act 1961. Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) has been developing innovative solutions for the livelihoods security of poor and marginalised people since the early 1990's.

Western India Rainfed Farming Project and the counterpart Eastern India Rainfed Farming Project have been two of its leading flagship interventions.They helped GVT stretch its reach into Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the west and Orissa, jharkhand and West Bengal in the east.

GVT has implemented its projects in some of the most telling conditions on the country's landscape, where poverty has been at its worst and ecological conditions most hostile. Yet, these have proved a boon to GVT, which, through sheer perseverance and sustained innovation, has developed benchmarks in rural development. In its pursuit for excellence, GVT has partnered with hosts of agencies including DFID , UNDP , Rockfeller Foundation , European Union , government departments , research institutions, non governmental organisations and village communities.
